Workshop - Introduction to Natural Dyeing

£135.00

Friday 28th March 2025

Exploring Natural Colour

Come and spend the day with us (Stephy and Claire) as we explore the beautiful dye flowers and plants we grow here on our farm. In the studio, we will experiment with a variety of colour extraction techniques, including immersion dyeing, bundle dyeing, and eco-printing.

The day will begin with a short introduction to our dye farm, our work, and a brief overview of natural dyeing. We’ll guide you through preparing textiles to ensure the colour forms a strong bond with the fabric—an essential step for any natural dyer.

Next, we’ll create a couple of dye baths to take you through immersion dyeing and whilst things are cooking, we’ll take a tour of the flower patch and the greenhouse to discuss growing natural colour at home.

Tea, coffee, and cake will be provided, but please bring a packed lunch.

By the end of the session, you’ll take home samples of the techniques you’ve tried, as well as your own unique creations: an eco-printed silk neckerchief (approx. 50 x 50 cm) and a bundle-dyed organic cotton tote bag, perfect for showcasing the natural colours and patterns you’ve crafted.

Please note: For our March event we will be using dried and/or pressed flowers from last year as this seasons won’t be in full bloom quite yet!
